Exchange shopping approved for more than half a million DoD, Coast Guard civilians

More than half a million Defense Department and Coast Guard civilian employees with a Common Access Card will be able to shop in military exchange stores by mid-May, according to a new Department of Defense directive.

The directive extends in-store and online exchange shopping privileges to appropriated fund and non-appropriated fund civilian employees who work in the U.S., and in U.S. territories and possessions, according to the memorandum signed by Virginia Penrod, acting under secretary of defense for personnel and readiness. These stores to open in The Boulevard shopping center this month

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Several new retailers will be opening their door to consumers in the new $180 million Boulevard shopping center in New Dorp this month.

Following the launch of ShopRite in the Boulevard in October, both PetSmart and LA Fitness are expected to open next week.

“The next significant wave of openings is just beginning. PetSmart will have their grand opening on April 17, with LA Fitness expected to open around the same time,” said Joshua Weinkranz, president of the northern region of Kimco Realty, developer of the project.

Google is shutting down its mobile Shopping app

Google is shutting down its mobile Shopping apps for both iOS and Android and directing users to its web Shopping site instead, 9to5 Google reported. On Friday, Xda Developers discovered that the term “sunset” had been added to several strings of code in the Shopping app, suggesting the apps were being discontinued.

Google will be shutting down the Shopping application, due to redundancy with what users can already do with the Shopping tab online, a report from 9to5Google says.

Google reportedly said it was ending support for the Shopping app on Android and iOS, and the clients will work through June.
