Fort Lauderdale shopping center shut down after ceiling collapse

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A Fort Lauderdale shopping center was closed for further inspection Thursday after a partial ceiling collapse.

Around 10 a.m., heavy stucco came down at the front entrance of the Bealls Outlet store in the Southland Shopping Center on State Road 84, about a mile east of I-95.

Shoppers were inside at the time and were eventually escorted out of the back of the building.

No injuries were reported.

“I heard the big boom and the crash and they said no one can exit through the door here,” said Ted Inserra, who watched the whole thing happen.

Wanted Sonora Man Spotted At Local Shopping Center


Sonora, CA – While patrolling in the Crossroads Shopping center on Sanguinetti Road in Sonora, a deputy spotted a wanted man whose arrest netted drugs and an illegal device.

Tuolumne County Sheriff’s officials detail that 37-year-old Shane Steele of Sonora was heading to his vehicle in the Pet Smart parking lot when the deputy recognized him as having outstanding drug-related warrants.

Kimco Realty Corp. plans to acquire Weingarten Realty Investors in a $3.87 billion deal that will create one of the nation’s largest public owner/operators of open-air, grocery-anchored shopping centers and mixed-use properties.
